Chauffeur Wanted

It happened again!

A simple little two-hour drive and I could hardly stay awake. The sun was starting to climb in the eastern sky, and all I wanted to do was sleep. It’s not like the sun was in my eyes blinding me; it wasn’t. It’s not like I didn’t sleep well the night before; I did. In fact my sleeping has greatly improved since we broke down and replaced our old bed with an amazingly comfortable new bed. Best decision in a long time. With a third of one’s life spent in bed, I highly recommend a good quality bed. But I digress; this isn’t supposed to be about buying beds.

So what’s the problem? I think driving is simply starting to bore me, at least driving overly familiar routes is. Is that possible? Maybe it’s simply a side effect of many years in the trucking industry. Maybe I’m simply at a point in my life where, if I didn’t have to drive anywhere, other than perhaps a quick errand around town, I’d probably be quite content. Road trips? Not if I can help it. Perhaps that’s why we never got into the RV-ing lifestyle; after driving for a living, the last thing I wanted to do on my personal time was drive yet again. Thus our creation of a backyard sanctuary; work, and then straight home to relax on my deck. No unnecessary driving! Paradise!

So here’s to bags of Werther’s Original candies and big travel mugs of strong black coffee; lately a requirement for all out of town trips. Without them I doubt if I’d get twenty kilometres down the highway without needing to pull over for a nap.

It’s a strange new me. Maybe it’s time to look for a chauffeur. Ha. 😉
