Bored? Never!

After my wife retired she told me of how a friend asked her, “Don’t you ever get bored?” Her answer? “Never!” Her days are full and quite enjoyable. There’s a lot to be said for that. There’s a lot to be said for enjoying life.

I don’t know the source of this photo, but I like it. As a matter of fact, I can see myself in it. As a bookworm with an extensive personal library, the very concept of boredom is almost anathema to me as well. If I lived to be one hundred, I’m sure I still would not have put a dent in the pile of books that I’d want to still read. Add to that a plethora of other interests and hobbies, and I am ready to challenge the boredom notion too.

Bored? Never! 😊

Monday: We Can Do This

The Apostle Paul once said, “One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” (Romans 14:5; ESV)

I have to confess that Mondays have never been my favourite day of the week. I suspect that is true for many people. Why is that? The only answer I have is that it has something to do with Monday being the start of another work week. Unless you’re seriously loving your job, Mondays can be downers. Maybe when I retire one day that will no longer be the case. I guess time will tell.

So for now, despite the fact that I’d rather be lounging around my home in my PJ’s with a good book and another cup of coffee, I am grateful for a good job. Yes, it gets stressful sometimes, but what job doesn’t? I am grateful for the physical and mental strength to still be able to do my job. I am grateful for my health, without which I would not be able to work. I am grateful that when I do eventually retire, that a decent pension also awaits me. So much to be thankful for! Maybe it is all a matter of attitude.

So once again this morning, this Monday morning, I will go to my place of employment, and smile. Monday morning? Yes, and that’s OK; we can do this. Peace.

Heaven’s Breakfast?

Breakfast has long since been my favourite meal of the day. As a matter of fact, I like it so much, that I usually have two of them.

The pictured oatmeal makes up the first breakfast; old school, stovetop, and oh so good. Stir in some frozen berries, add a generous serving of yogurt, and enjoy.

I would not at all be surprised to see this on the breakfast table that first morning in Heaven.

The Other Side of AWESOME

awe -n. 1. wonder and reverence inspired by something sacred, mysterious, or magnificent. 2. great respect and admiration mixed with fear, inspired by power and authority.
awesome -adj. 1. causing awe. 2. showing awe.

Wandering through the treasures in my favourite used bookstore and then going home to a quiet house to curl up with one of those treasures is nothing less than … awesome!

Is Today the Best Day in the Year?

Consider the kind of extravagant love the Father has lavished on us - He calls us children of God! It’s true; we are His beloved children.
1 John 3:1

While reading a new book, I came across this quote attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”  I like that. It is so easy to bemoan certain days more than others, such as the proverbial Monday morning blues, that we completely miss all the beautiful things that our loving God has for us. I know, I have been guilty of that myself a time or a thousand. Why do we do that?

So rather than wait for January 1st to make yet another New Year’s resolution, I thought I’d beat the rush. Today is the best day in the year. When today is over, and Lord willing that I wake up tomorrow, it too will be the best day in the year. Then by God’s continued grace, the day after tomorrow, will again be the best day in the year. Wow; I feel better all ready!

So how about you? Ready for a July New Year’s resolution? Ready to have your best day in the year? May it be so. Peace and Blessings, friends. God is good. 😊

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

The above photo was taken from the balcony of my parents home overlooking the beautiful Ottawa River. I am looking forward to spending time with them there again real soon. I love you, Mom and Dad. Thank you for also striving to make every day the best day in the year. ❤

A Cure for the Cranky?

One of the great things that I enjoy about a new month is flipping over the kitchen calendar page. For several years now we have enjoyed the free calendars provided by our local vet hospital. Each month features a beautiful picture of a different breed of dog and a cute quote about man’s best friend. So, yes, the first day of a new month is always fun.

Though comical, this month’s quote really resonated with me. In the hustle and bustle and stressors of this often crazy world, there is the unconditional love of a dog. If the truth be known, sometimes I’m a lot less cranky when it’s just me and my dog.

So this post is dedicated to my dog, to this man’s best friend. As much as we rescued her from the animal shelter six years ago, so she has rescued me; day after day, month after month, and year after year. 😊❤
