Don't Like the Weather? Wait an Hour!

You may be asking yourself, "What's the big deal with a picture of snow blizzard?

Well, normally, there's no big deal at all. This is only the 3rd of March, after all, and this is Canada, and in Canada we get winters. And in winters, we get snow, and blowing snow, and some days, we even get white-outs.

Now this isn't a white-out, by any stretch of the imagination. After all, I can still see across the street ... sort of. The trailer in the picture is immediately across the street from my driveway; you can see it, and I can see it, so it's all good. Right?

I mean, if this were a real white-out, as I've seen many times before, from this angle we wouldn't even see the tree in the foreground of this picture, much less anything else.

So what's the big deal? None, but weather changes in our little corner of the world never cease to amaze me. Someone has said, "If you don't like the weather, wait an hour." I think there's some truth to that.

Less than 24 hours ago, a good friend of mine and myself went on a 220 km motorcycle trip. Yes, from this very driveway, and not from some tropical southern location.

My 2007 Vulcan Nomad, 1600cc.
Granted, yesterday we did have some rather warm weather; I think we reached a balmy +14 degrees Celsius. Oh well, am I complaining? Not for a second. Based upon some of the weather patterns the media has reported from other parts of the globe lately, I will happily put up with some of this.

Oh, and by the way, that trailer across the street? It's now a little less visible than it was when I took this picture a few moments ago. But all's good. A couple days of this, and the current forecast is for a nice weekend again, just in time for Daylight Savings Time.

Can you believe it? Next Sunday, March 10th, we turn the clocks ahead once again, which in turn means that summer is just around the corner. This in turn means, of course, riding time is also just around the corner.  How sweet is that?

Oh, and by the way, please watch out for bikers. The life you save by being careful could belong to someone near and dear to you. On behalf of all my friends who ride, "Thank you."

Snack Wars?

You just can't make this stuff up!

Every once in a while you find a story in the newspaper that makes you sit up and say, "Hmm." Every once in a while there appears a story that is right up there on the "Weird-o-Meter."

The following story appeared in our local newspaper on Saturday March 2, 2013. A quick search on Google appears to confirm it.

Chips and dip used in assaults

"There wasn't much beer left but apparently there was enough chip dip to go around at a home in eastern Ontario.
A Lindsay, Ont. couple are facing charges for allegedly assaulting each other with chips and dip.
Police say they were called early Friday morning to a home in the community west of Peterborough, where there had already been 15 previously documented domestic disputes.
When officers arrived at the scene of the disturbance just after 1 a.m., they found both people covered in chips and dip after apparently fighting over the last beer.
A 39-year old man and a 41-year old woman both face charges of domestic-related assault and will appear in court on March 28."

I really don't know what to say to that, except, I wonder who ended up getting the last beer? As the old saying goes, "It takes all kinds."
